FAQ
What is Xeomin? What is Dysport? How are they different?
Xeomin and Dysport are both neurotoxins that relax muscles which are responsible for causing many wrinkles in the face. Both are similar in action but the manufacturing process is slightly different between the two, leading to subtle differences in clinical practice.
Xeomin contains only one ingredient: botulinum toxin A and is therefore referred to as the “naked neurotoxin.” It is a ‘naked injectable’ meaning that it does not contain any additives, offering the benefit that the human body is less likely to become resistant to it.
Dysport contains protective accessory proteins on the outside of the botulinum toxin A molecule, but offers the benefit of quicker onset of action, and sometimes longer duration when compared to other neurotoxins.
How much does Xeomin/Dysport cost?
Despite the initial price tag glance, the cost of Xeomin and Dysport is similar. Xeomin’s cost is $12/unit while Dysport costs $4.25/unit. It typically takes 2.5-3 times as many Dysport molecules to equal 1 unit of other neurotoxins, therefore their pricing is very comparable if not the same, depending on the area to be treated.
When will I see results?
Results with Dysport typically start to appear 48-72 hours after treatment. Xeomin may take 5-7 days to show its effects. All neurotoxins will be fully set up and reach their peak effect 14 days after treatment.
How long do results last?
Results from Xeomin and Dysport are not permanent. Effects vary by individual but usually last about 3-4 months.
How many treatments will I need?
Neurotoxins only need a single treatment to show results. However, results last about 3-4 months, therefore treatments can continue upon this timeline for as long as the patient desires.
Will I need time to recover?
